Alaska Map Information

Alaska is the biggest state in the United States, more than double the square mileage of Texas. It was the 49th state to be added to the United States and is known as the “Last Frontier.” Alaska was bought from Russia in 1867, and in the winter months you can actually walk across the ice right into Russia. Alaska is also home to America’s highest peak at 20,320 feet which poses an extreme challenge to even the best mountain climber.
The state bird is the Willow Ptarmigan, the state flower is the The Forget-me-not, and the state motto is “North to the Future.” Even though Alaska isn’t highly populated, it’s home to great wildlife, rare resources, and is in an important strategic position for the American military.
