This map of Antarctica shows the location of the South Pole, as well as important physical features like the Ross Ice Shelf, Ronne Ice Shelf, and the Larsen Ice Shelf. You can also see the surrounding water features like the Weddell Sea, and the Ross Sea.
Antarctica is mostly ice (~98% to be exact,) and despite what most people think, is actually a desert because of the extreme dry, windy conditions. Nobody actually lives on the continent full-time, but there are generally a few thousand researchers living on the ice at any given time. There are animals that have adapted and can survive there, including seals, penguins, and a few smaller animals & microorganisms.
