Delaware Map Information
Delaware has many claims to fame despite its small size. It was the first of the 13 original states of the Union, and William Penn actually got the land that is now known as Delaware so his colony (Pennsylvania), would have access to the Atlantic Ocean. The state is now very well known for their chemical research and per capita they rank second for civilian engineers and scientists. A large percentage of new patents also originate here.
The state motto is “Liberty and independence” which is not surprising considering their history as the first state which is also one of their nicknames along with “Diamond State” and “Small Wonder”. The state flower is the “Peach Blossom” and the state bird is the “Blue Hen Chicken”.
