This map of Indiana shows the largest cities including Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, and Gary. You can see Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes, bordering the state in the North. The topography is also shown lightly on the map. The southern half of the state is full of hills even though most people think of Indiana as a flat state.

Indiana Map Information

Indiana was the 19th state brought into the United States in 1816. It’s considered a Midwestern state even though it’s on the Eastern half of the US. The state ranks as the 15th most populous state even though it’s only the 38th largest in square miles.
The states motto is the “The Crossroads Of America”, and the residents are known as “Hoosiers” which is why the state can also be referred to as the “Hoosier State.” There is a large sports presence in the state with the Indianapolis Colts, Indianapolis Pacers, Indy 500, and some of the largest colleges in the country.

Illinois Map Information

Illinois isn’t near a coast, but it’s the nations 5th most populous state, and has the 3rd most populous city with Chicago. Some interesting facts about Illinois are that they are known as the “Land of Lincoln” because of Abraham Lincoln being raised there, and it was included in the Union in 1818 as the 21st state. Chicago has a strong presence economically in almost every area including agriculture, engineering, and manufacturing.
The states motto is the “Prairie State”, the state flower is the Violet, and the state bird is the Cardinal. The cardinal is the mascot of the St. Louis baseball team which most people think is a city totally contained in Missouri, but the eastern suburbs of St. Louis is actually the second largest metropolitan area in Illinois.

Idaho Map Information

Idaho was one of the last states to become part of the US, coming in at #43. It’s a mostly mountainous state which makes for a beautiful landscape, but it’s also still very raw land which has led to a relatively low population. Idaho may be best known for their potatoes, but they are also an important resource for mining as well as lumber from the logging industry. The state is even known as the “Gem State” because almost every gem known has been found here.
The state motto of Idaho is “It is forever”. The state bird is the Mountain Bluebird and the state flower is the Syringa. The climate for Idaho is fairly cool, but not as cold as you’d expect from an area so far north. The temperature is still affected from the Oceans affects even though it’s so far inland.
